We are taking you behind the scenes of edozo and introducing our team members, some might sound familiar to you and some others not, but they are all equally important and doing a phenomenal job. Let's get to know the heroes behind edozo.

Who are you?

I'm Chrissy and I'm a front-end developer in edozo. I work in the technology side of edozo with the rest of the team to help deliver new features to edozo Maps as well as fixing up any little bugs to make sure that our clients can get what they need to done as easily and seamlessly as possible.

What do you like about edozo?

The culture! When I joined, I felt like I'd really lucked out with the people and the atmosphere at edozo and I still feel like that now. Everyone is so friendly, helpful and hardworking! It’s such a tight-knit team even as we've been growing and adding new members. I think the emphasis on company socials and getting to know each other helps foster it but it's really like capturing lightning in a bottle and I feel so glad to be a part of it.

What are your interests outside of work?

I am the worst when it comes to picking up too many hobbies. They say do what you love and I really love coding so I tend to do a fair bit of it outside of work too. I love to garden, to sew, to build silly electronics projects, solving puzzles and crosswords, playing videogames, DIY. Anything creative or focused on problem solving is perfect. My mind always feels like it's on the go so I find anything you have to pay a little focus to very peaceful and mindful.

If you were the only human left on Earth, what would you do?

I'm not sure exactly how I'd do it without knowing how to fly a plane on my own but I'd love to travel! All of the most beautiful and interesting places of the world would be free to explore without any crowds. You could visit every historical landmark, every natural wonder, every beautiful landscape you could think of. I'm not sure it'd be nearly as lovely without a world of people to share those moments with though.

What book are you reading now and why?

Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy Neil. It was recommended to me by my colleague and fellow developer Zac and gives an interesting insight into the ways algorithms can influence our lives and, without careful consideration, can perpetuate bias and prejudice. It's truly a fascinating and informative read for anyone living in the world today but should definitely be a must read for those involved in technology who contribute to the making of these systems and algorithms. It looks at, among others, algorithms that sort CVs, score teachers and target voters and the way they shape our present and futures.

What’s one thing you’re learning now, and why is it important?

I'm currently learning BSL (British sign language) after seeing videos about people's experiences being deaf and hard of hearing in the UK. BSL is its own language with its own grammar separate to spoken English and with its own puns and jokes. I've always loved the way learning a new language can help you connect with new people and I think BSL is no different.
